Small Magdalenian Projectiles

The upper and late Magdalenian at the type-site La Madeleine (http://www.aggsbach.de/2010/10/la-madeleine-and-the-magdalenian/) shows an incredible richness of needle sharp small projectile points, which are neither adequately displayed in Peyrony`s monograph, nor in the dissertation of Sonneville-Bordes. These points usually exhibit a marginal, semi-abrupt ,or more often abrupt retouche and should be seen as components of a sophisticated hunting equipment.

similar points are shown in the publications of M. Langlais about the Magdalenian between the Rhone and Ebro-basin:

Some years after writing this post, the gap about the projectile points of la Madeleine has been filled: http://paleo.revues.org/2461?lang=en

About Katzman

During my whole life I was fascinated by stone age artefacts. Not only the aesthetic qualities of these findings, but also the stories around them and the considerations arising from their discovery, are a part of my blog. Comments and contributions are allways welcome! About me: J.L. Katzman (Pseudonym). Born in Vienna. Left Austria in 1974 and did not regret. Studied Medicine and Prehistory at a German University. Member of a Medical Department at a German University. Copyright 2010-2017 by JLK. All Rights Reserved. You are welcome to use material in these posts so long as you cite the work.
